Health Professions Trainees

Resources for Health Professions Trainees coming to VA

Thank you for pursuing clinical training at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). By participating in a health professions training program, you are playing a vital role in providing high-quality health care to Veterans. For any question, contact the program coordinator at the institution where your program is located.

Review onboarding requirements and forms

In addition to any program-specific applications forms, clinical trainees must meet specific requirements and complete the forms provided.

Department of Veterans Affairs Psychology Postdoctoral Resident or Advanced Fellow Verification Agreement

VA Psychology postdoctoral residents and advanced fellows must complete all academic requirements of their doctoral degree from a program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), or Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) prior to their matriculation into the postdoctoral residency or advanced fellowship program. VA program directors are responsible for verifying that requirements have been met prior to completing the onboarding process. Consistent with APPIC Postdoctoral Guidelines, this verification includes ensuring receipt of “a diploma or a letter from the Director of graduate studies verifying the completion of all degree requirements pending institution graduation ceremony.”

Complete Mandatory Training for Trainees

Mandatory Training (MTT) constitutes the minimum curriculum necessary for a trainee to train safely and effectively in VA and is required for all clinical trainees each year. In this course, you will refresh your knowledge on a wide range of topics, including VA’s mission, safety, information security, privacy, ethics, health records, and VA Career opportunities.

Take the Trainee Satisfaction Survey

The Trainee Satisfaction Survey (TSS) provides an opportunity for clinical trainees to rate their VA training. As you come to the end of your training rotation at VA, your program coordinator will ask you to take this anonymous survey. Your feedback will help us identify areas of excellence and areas where we need to improve.
