Chief AI Officer

The Chief AI Officer (CAIO) team in the Office of Information and Technology (OIT) leads the implementation of artificial intelligence across the Department of Veterans Affairs. Our mission is to improve Veterans’ lives through the thoughtful and responsible use of AI-driven technology. 

We guide: 

  • VA’s AI Strategy – shaping how AI supports Veterans and VA staff. 
  • Federal AI Governance – ensuring every VA AI project meets the highest standards for security, privacy, and trust. 
  • AI Pilots Across VA – exploring new tools and solutions to improve VA services. 

We are committed to making sure AI at VA is used responsibly, with Veterans’ interests at the center of everything we do.
