If you need mental health services related to PTSD or other mental health conditions linked to your service (including conditions related to an experience of military sexual trauma or assault) you may qualify for VA health benefits right away, even without a VA Character of Discharge review or a discharge upgrade.

Advisory Committee on Women Veterans (ACWV)

The Advisory Committee on Women Veterans (ACWV) was established and chartered in November 1983 by Public Law 98-160. The Advisory Committee on Women Veterans assesses the needs of women Veterans, with respect to VA programs such as compensation, rehabilitation, outreach, healthcare, etc. The Committee reviews VA’s programs, activities, research projects and other initiatives designed to meet the needs of women Veterans; and makes recommendations to the Secretary on ways to improve, modify, and affect change in programs and services for women Veterans and follows up on all those recommendations.

Women Veterans Enrollment Initiative, "Boots on the Ground for Boots on the Ground," Regional Summits

The VA Center for Women Veterans (CWV) in partnership with the Office of Women’s Health (OWH) launched the Women Veterans Enrollment Initiative: “Boots on the Ground for Boots on the Ground”—a series of five regional summits, bringing VA services directly to women Veterans in their communities.

The first summit will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, and Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, Texas (serving Veterans from Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma). Future summits will reach additional regions across the U.S.

Four additional regional summits will follow, with the final event in May 2027 (dates and locations TBD).

Office of Women's Health

The Office of Women's Health (OWH) within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is dedicated to addressing the unique health care needs of female veterans. It oversees national policy and operations for women's health care, focusing on comprehensive health, reproductive health, and education. The office aims to ensure that women veterans have access to a range of health services, including maternity care and sexual health support.

VA Women’s Health Reengagement Training (heaRT)

The VA Women’s Health Reengagement Training (heaRT) is a crucial initiative aimed at empowering women veterans to access and utilize the healthcare services they have earned. The training covers a range of topics, including how to apply for and use VA health care, the unique health challenges faced by women veterans, and the availability of VA health care services. The program is designed to be a one-time, 4-hour session, providing women veterans with the knowledge and support needed to navigate their health care journey.
