Foundations: A PSA series centered on real Veteran stories

By Shawn Liu, National Homeless Program Manager, Homeless Programs Office

June 2, 2026

Real Veterans. Real experiences. Real stories.

These principles guided the development of Foundations, a public service announcement (PSA) series that features testimonials from real Veterans who shared their personal journeys from homelessness to housing—and how the right support from VA helped them find stability and regain their independence. The Foundations PSA series was recently recognized with a 2026 Gold Hermes Creative Award.

Across this five-part series, Veterans who experienced—or were at risk of—homelessness share how they were able to find housing, purpose, and hope with the help of VA homeless programs and resources. Told in their own words, these PSAs highlight the impact of this support while reflecting these Veterans’ inspiring stories of courage, resiliency, and strength.

Check out the testimonials of the five Veterans featured in the Foundations series below.

Albert: Finding housing, trust, and connection

Christine: Creating a home for herself and her family

Ashton: Turning his life around, one step at a time

William: Rediscovering purpose along the way home

Ray: Regaining stability through recovery and housing
