VA MidSouth Healthcare Network includes an integrated system of five high complexity, tertiary care medical centers in Lexington, Kentucky; Louisville, Kentucky; Memphis Tennessee; Mountain Home, Tennessee; and Nashville, Tennessee. The network includes more than 48 community outpatient clinics and three Community Living Centers across 22 Congressional districts serving 272 counties in Kentucky, Tennessee, and portions of Georgia, Indiana, Virginia, Mississippi, and Arkansas.

Gregory W. Goins is Director of the VA MidSouth Healthcare Network (VISN 9). He is responsible for an operating budget of more than $3.5 billion to serve a population of 276,124 unique Veterans and more than 13,000 employees. Mr. Goins provides executive leadership and formulates the strategic direction for an integrated healthcare delivery system comprised of five Joint Commission accredited medical centers located in Kentucky and Tennessee. Additionally, VISN 9 medical centers support 40 Community Based Outpatient Clinics, eight Outpatient Clinics, three Community Living Centers, and a network of contract providers. The Network is a vital link to the education and training of area healthcare professionals through its affiliation with eight medical schools. Mr. Goins is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, a Certified VA Mentor, and is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a medical library scientist. He is a graduate of Leadership Cincinnati (Class 42) and received the Cincinnati Torchlight Award in 2019. Mr. Goins is an ambassador for the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University. Mr. Goins is an Operation Enduring Freedom Veteran and a 10-year Navy Veteran, where he served as a Hospital Corpsman and a Medical Service Corps Officer. He is a two-time recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal and recipient of the Navy and Army Commendation Medals. Mr. Goins earned a master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Operations Management from the Ohio State University and has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Western Washington University.

Dr. Anthony M. Stazzone was appointed Chief Medical Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MidSouth Healthcare Network in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 9, 2019. During his appointment, he also served as the interim Health System Director for the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System in Nashville from November 2021 through April 2022.
VA MidSouth Healthcare Network, also called VISN 9, is one of eighteen Veteran Integrated Service Networks (VISN) that provide management and oversight to Veteran Health Administration medical regions. VISN 9 is an integrated healthcare delivery system comprised of five Joint Commission-accredited medical centers and more than fifty outpatient clinics covering twenty-two congressional districts and 272 counties in Kentucky, Tennessee, and portions of Georgia, Indiana, Virginia, Mississippi, and Arkansas responsible for delivering care to more than 375,000 Veterans annually. The MidSouth Healthcare Network, covering almost 110,000 square miles, provides Veterans with a full range of quality and cost-effective medical, specialty, psychiatric, and extended care services.
Dr. Stazzone began his medical career in private practice with the Carondelet Medical Group. He transitioned to the University of Arizona College of Medicine and held progressive leadership positions for over twelve years as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. Stazzone directed inpatient teaching teams and resident clinics and served on medical school admission, credentialing, and quality committees, ultimately becoming the Chief of Staff-elect.
Dr. Stazzone joined the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson, Arizona, as Chief of Primary Care and became the Chief of Staff.
Dr. Stazzone received his Medical Degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and an American College of Physicians Fellow. Dr. Stazzone also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Eller College of Management.

Jeanne Poindexter was appointed VA MidSouth Healthcare Network Quality Management Officer in December 2022.
In her current role, Ms. Poindexter oversees the quality, safety, and high reliability in the Network with executive oversight of five VA Health Care Systems with two Level 1a, one Level 1b-High Complexity in Tennessee, and two Level 1b-High Complexity in Kentucky with 68 active sites of care. She holds direct full-line authority and responsibility for Patient Safety, Risk Management, Systems Redesign & Innovation, Performance Improvement, Accreditation & Regulatory Oversight, High Reliability, Utilization Management, and Data Analytics for the region.
Before this role, Ms. Poindexter served as the VISN 9 Deputy Quality Management Officer. Ms. Poindexter joined the VA in 2008 as Quality Manager at Central Virginia VA Healthcare System after serving 23 years in academic facilities and the private sector healthcare where she held various leadership and executive roles.
Mrs. Poindexter earned her diploma in Nursing from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Towson, MD. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Central Michigan University and completed a post-masters executive fellowship in patient safety at VCU. Ms. Poindexter is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
