
Curt Cashour was sworn in as VA Assistant Secretary for Public and Intergovernmental Affairs Feb. 13, 2025, following his appointment by President Donald J. Trump. In this role, Cashour leads VA’s communications with Veterans, the public, employees, and the news media. He’s also responsible for managing the department’s relationships with state, local, tribal, insular, and international governments.
Cashour brings more than 20 years of experience producing integrated communication campaigns for presidential candidates, cabinet secretaries, congressional leaders, battlefield generals and industry groups. He previously served the department as senior advisor to the secretary. During the first Trump Administration, he worked as VA’s deputy assistant secretary for public affairs and press secretary.
Cashour served as communications director for the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he spearheaded communication efforts that helped lead to the passage of landmark VA reform legislation, the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act. Additionally, he was deputy communications director for Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign and Virginia communications director for Gov. Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential bid.
Earlier in his career, Cashour worked as managing director of the political and issue-advocacy advertising firm, Revolution Agency. There, he produced direct mail items as well as television, print and radio advertising for dozens of candidates and causes across the country.
Cashour is a graduate of Ohio University, an Army and Iraq War veteran, and a recipient of the military’s Bronze Star and Meritorious Service medals. He lives in Alexandria, Va., with his wife and son.
