Nationwide, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities use the creative arts to help Veterans with their rehabilitation goals. This annual competition recognizes the progress and recovery made through that therapy and raises the visibility of the creative achievements of our nation’s Veterans.

Interested in competing to attend the next National Veterans Creative Arts Festival? It is no longer a requirement to enter through your local VA facility. Veterans may submit their works directly to the national Festival for review and possible selection. Start working on your submissions for the next National Veterans Creative Arts Festival! Entries must have been completed after October 1, 2025. The entry window to submit your submission and application will be February 1 to March 15, 2027. Details regarding divisions, categories, rules, and how to submit will be shared on this website by April, 2026.
The Festival
Co-presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Legion Auxiliary, the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival empowers Veterans to improve their mental and physical health through therapeutic creative arts experiences. The event provides a creative space to focus on healing, growth, collaboration, and connection through the power of the creative arts. Veterans who engage in the creative arts at the Festival build a sense of community and belonging, impacting their overall health and wellness goals.
Eligibility
This competition is open to Veterans who are eligible to receive care through the Department of Veterans Affairs AND are enrolled at a VA Medical Center, Outpatient Clinic, or Vets Center BEFORE submitting their entry/application. To enroll in VA health care, submit the Application for Health Benefits OR VA Registration (VA Form 1010EZ).

Since 2000, the Auxiliary has co-presented NVCAF, alongside the Department of Veterans Affairs. Carrying out the Auxiliary’s mission of Service Not Self, members, units, and departments support the local competitions, the Festival, and make generous monetary donations to help carry out this event.
