VA is making major improvements during the second Trump Administration.
President Trump’s VA:
- VA opened 38 new healthcare clinics, expanding access for Veterans around the country
- The backlog of Veterans waiting for VA benefits is down 74% since Jan. 20, 2025, after it increased 24% during the Biden Administration. In June, this backlog fell to less than 70,000 claims for the first time since 2020.
- As of June, has VA has enrolled more than 180,000 new Veterans in VA health care in 2026.
- Since Jan. 20, 2025, VA has offered Veterans more than 3 million appointments outside of normal operating hours. These early-morning, evening, and weekend appointments are giving Veterans more timely and convenient options for care.
- VA put the deployment of VA’s electronic health modernization effort back on track by successfully deploying it to four sites in Ohio and Kentucky and four sites in Michigan, after the Biden Administration ignored this priority for years.
- VA will spend nearly $5 billion in FY26 to modernize, repair and improve health care facilities, the largest non-recurring maintenance investment in VA’s history.
- VA permanently housed 51,936 homeless Veterans across the country in FY25, the highest total in seven years.
- VA is processing record numbers of disability claims, reaching an all-time fiscal-year high of three million claims processed Sept. 30.
- VA has eliminated the backlog of Veteran families waiting for VA health care.
- VA centralized its payroll for all VA employees instead of letting dozens of VA facilities run their own wasteful and duplicative payroll systems, a change that will save $24 million per year and allow VA to focus more resources on Veterans instead of bureaucracy.
- VA made long-overdue fixes to its police force, which will create a more stable VA Police and boost safety for Veterans, staff and visitors at VA locations across the country.
- VA launched a new Partial Claims Program that will help Veterans avoid foreclosure.
- VA sped up the delivery of prosthetic limbs to Veterans and is expecting a 42% reduction in delivery times.

VA set new records for Veteran suicide prevention screening and comprehensive evaluations for at-risk Veterans, two critical elements of VA’s ongoing work to prevent Veteran suicide.
- 78% of VA hospitals that received an Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating earned four or five stars in the latest annual report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services – a record high.
- VA launched a clinical trial of MDMA-assisted mental health therapy to assess how it may be used to treat severe mental health disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder and alcohol use disorder.
- VA announced major improvements in VA’s processing and delivery of Veteran disability claims, including an accuracy rate of more than 94% for claims processing, the highest in two years.
- VA announced that the Joint Commission, the nation’s most trusted quality and safety accrediting body for health care systems, accredited all 176 VA programs it reviewed in 2025.
- VA is expanding the use of its new External Provider Scheduling system, which gives VA employees instant access to the scheduling systems of all community care providers and enables VA to book appointments for Veterans in a matter of minutes.
- VA took steps to make it easier for Veterans to maximize their G.I. Bill education benefits, by automatically assessing their eligibility for expanded benefits under two recent court rulings.
- VA set a new record for customer satisfaction in memorial services and achieved the highest score ever by any public or private organization as measured by the American Customer Satisfaction Index.
- VA terminated the illegal and wasteful West Los Angeles VAMC leases and license, a critical step toward implementing President Trump’s executive order to establish the National Center for Warrior Independence for Homeless Veterans.
- VA reversed a decades-old wrong by protecting Veterans’ Second Amendment rights. Effective February 2026, VA will no longer report Veterans to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System as “prohibited persons” only because they need help from a fiduciary in managing their VA benefits.
- VA launched a reorganization of the Veterans Health Administration management structure, a long overdue step that will empower local hospital directors, eliminate duplicative layers of bureaucracy and ensure consistent application of VA policies across all department medical facilities.
- VA issued a request for proposals for new community care contracts that will improve health care choice and quality for Veterans over the next decade.
- VA increased the expenditure cap for in-home and community-based services for Veterans with certain complex medical conditions. This will significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs for eligible Veterans and their families for services like home health aide, home respite, community adult day health care, Veteran Directed Care, and skilled home health, which will make it easier for Veterans to continue residing in their homes.
- VA is accelerating the deployment of its integrated electronic health record system, after the program was nearly dormant for almost two years under the Biden Administration.
- VA has made it easier and faster for VA-enrolled Veterans to access care from non-VA providers at the department’s expense.
- VA has made it easier for women Veterans to access gynecology care.
- VA partnered with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to identify and recover $106 million in duplicate billing.
- VA has brought tens of thousands of employees back to the office, where we can work better as a team to serve Veterans.
- VA has terminated union contracts for most bargaining unit employees and redirected millions in wasteful union spending back to Veterans.
- VA ended DEI at the department, reversing the divisive Biden-era policies and stopping more than $14 million in DEI spending.
- VA is phasing out treatment for gender dysphoria. This commonsense reform should have been done years ago, but only President Trump and Secretary Collins had the courage to do it.
- VA canceled Biden Administration plans to spend $77 million on electric vehicle chargers and is instead spending the money to fight cancer and improve health care at facilities around the nation.
