Rita Grewal currently serves as the Acting Director of VA Privacy Service and Branch Chief of VA Privacy Risk Management and Compliance. With 30 years of experience at the VA, she has held several key positions, including Chief of Health Information Management, Privacy and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer, Records Management Officer, and Veterans Equitable Resource Allocation (VERA) Coordinator. Ms. Grewal has demonstrated dynamic leadership on various enterprise-wide privacy initiatives, such as the implementation of Electronic Health Records, privacy risk assessment, compliance, and VA Social Security Number reduction efforts. She provides privacy advisory and consultation services to VA employees at all levels, as well as to Veterans and the public.

Ms. Grewal earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from George Washington University and her Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. Ms. Grewal is a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), and a Certified Information Privacy Professional for Government (CIPP/G). She is also affiliated with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
