Dr. Anthony M. Stazzone was appointed Chief Medical Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MidSouth Healthcare Network in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 9, 2019. During his appointment, he also served as the interim Health System Director for the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System in Nashville from November 2021 through April 2022.
VA MidSouth Healthcare Network, also called VISN 9, is one of eighteen Veteran Integrated Service Networks (VISN) that provide management and oversight to Veteran Health Administration medical regions. VISN 9 is an integrated healthcare delivery system comprised of five Joint Commission-accredited medical centers and more than fifty outpatient clinics covering twenty-two congressional districts and 272 counties in Kentucky, Tennessee, and portions of Georgia, Indiana, Virginia, Mississippi, and Arkansas responsible for delivering care to more than 375,000 Veterans annually. The MidSouth Healthcare Network, covering almost 110,000 square miles, provides Veterans with a full range of quality and cost-effective medical, specialty, psychiatric, and extended care services.
Dr. Stazzone began his medical career in private practice with the Carondelet Medical Group. He transitioned to the University of Arizona College of Medicine and held progressive leadership positions for over twelve years as an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. Stazzone directed inpatient teaching teams and resident clinics and served on medical school admission, credentialing, and quality committees, ultimately becoming the Chief of Staff-elect.
Dr. Stazzone joined the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson, Arizona, as Chief of Primary Care and became the Chief of Staff.
Dr. Stazzone received his Medical Degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and an American College of Physicians Fellow. Dr. Stazzone also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Eller College of Management.
