Joan E. McInerney, MD, MBA, MA, FACEP, was selected as the Network Director for the New York/New Jersey VA Health Care Network (VISN 2), effective May 1, 2016. VISN 2 includes 10 VA Medical Centers and 59 Community Based Outpatient Clinics in New York and New Jersey that serve over 500,000 Veterans.
Dr. McInerney is Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. She joined VA in April 2011 as the Chief Medical Officer of VISN 3, where she led clinical innovation efforts, including integrating new models of care and implementing evidence-based clinical practice. An advocate of Lean processes, Dr. McInerney has championed efforts to reduce inefficiencies while improving safety and quality of care across the VISN.
Before joining the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. McInerney was the Chairman of Emergency Medicine at two Level 1 Trauma Centers in metropolitan New York for 24 years and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook and was designated a member of the National Disaster Preparedness and Response Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. McInerney earned an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University and an MA degree in Security Studies (Homeland Security & Defense) from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
