Mr. Darrell R. Owens

Darrell Owens serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs and was sworn in on February 3, 2025. Darrell is currently Performing the Delegable Duties of the Assistant Secretary and is the central point for all matters involving the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. He serves as the chief liaison for all VA engagement and interaction with Members of Congress, Committees of jurisdiction, and their offices, while maintaining responsive and effective communications.

Prior to this position, Mr. Owens was the Director of Government Relations for America’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) and active in the veteran’s community. In addition, he continues to serve as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Reserve, and has served in South Korea, Poland, and Germany. Most recently, he served overseas as the Deputy Foreign Policy Advisor and Congressional Liaison for US Army Europe and Africa.

Mr. Owens previously served on Capitol Hill for nearly 14 years, most recently as National Security Advisor to Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-15), focusing on military, foreign affairs, and veteran’s issues. He is a graduate of the Air Force Air Command & Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.
