Executive Director, Office of Business Integration

Derek Herbert was appointed as the Executive Director, Office of Business Integration in February 2024. In this role, he is responsible for the coordination of enterprise investment decisions across the Veterans Benefits Administration with the Office of Information and Technology, as well as management of claims processing support operations through one of the largest government-industry partnerships within the Department of Veterans Affairs. These support services include centralized intake, commercial document conversion services, and aligned automation activities. These capabilities produce more than 1.4 billion images, automate more than 1.2 million claims-related actions per year, and are integral components of the agency’s claims processing framework. The contract value of this partnership exceeds $4.7 billion and is designed to deliver comprehensive, integrated business capabilities, which enable faster, more efficient delivery of benefits and support the broader strategic transformation objectives of the agency.

Mr. Herbert previously served as the Director, Business Transformation Services, Office of Business Integration, where he led digital transformation efforts to modernize claims processing from a completely paper-based process to one that is digital and increasingly leverages automation.
