Ms. Joanne Choi was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Finance in March 2019. As the DAS, Ms. Choi is responsible for Department-wide financial policy formulation, financial statement preparation, annual financial audit coordination and remediation, maintenance of VA’s legacy financial system, and enterprise debt management. Ms. Choi is the principal advisor to the VA Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Deputy CFO on VA’s financial management policies, practices, applicable laws, regulations, systems and operations.
Before assuming the role of DAS, Ms. Choi served as the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Finance. Prior to joining the Department, she was the Director of the Office of Finance and Accounting at the Department of Energy (DOE) where she managed DOE’s financial and accounting operations and produced financial statements.
