Mark T. Upton, MD has been appointed to serve as the new Deputy to the Deputy Under Secretary for Health, Office of the Deputy Under Secretary for Health, effective November 6, 2022. Dr. Upton demonstrated exceptional leadership in his career, serving in his role as the Deputy to the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Integrated Veteran Care and Acting Deputy to the Deputy Under Secretary for Health. In addition, he served as the Acting Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Community Care; Executive Director, Performance Improvement and Reporting; and Patient Safety Officer. Dr. Upton is board certified in internal medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians and Society of Hospital Medicine.
