About the Office of Acquistion and Logistics

With annual expenditures exceeding $17 billion, VA is one of the largest procurement agencies in the Federal Government. It procures drugs, medical supplies, equipment, and other critical items for its extensive health care system, which serves various facilities, regional offices, national cemeteries, and other government entities. The Office of Acquisition and Logistics (OAL) operates independently to maintain the integrity of the procurement system.

As a principal VA staff office, OAL is responsible to the Secretary, through the Principal Executive Director for Acquisition, Logistics and Construction, for providing goods and services needed by client activities.

OAL supports diverse VA programs and manages a Government-wide role in the supply management of medical supplies and non-perishable subsistence. Its operations are funded through the self-sustaining VA Supply Fund, with costs recovered through mechanisms that pass service costs to beneficiaries.
